FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE AND EARLY LEARNING DIPLOMA

The following are brief descriptions of the courses available:

A. FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE COURSE:

Part-time Study: Option 1: September to June.

This is a part-time course dispensed over 9 months (September to    June)   comprising 100 compulsory attendance hours (one 3-hour     session   –Monday morning, once a week as per the calendar), the     completion   of the Lesson Plan File, a Short Answer Exam Paper and a    Practical  Exam on the use of the Montessori materials. This is a UK Montessori Centre International Certificate (level 2 equivalent of   Teaching  Assistant in the UK) with worldwide recognition.

Distance Learning study: Option 2: September to June.

This course option requires you to have regular internet access.

  • This is a part-time course dispensed over 9 months. It comprises the following parts:
  • A compulsory Two Week Workshop:  9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m, taking place twice in a year, In April and September.
  • Also, a compulsory Four Day Workshop preceding the exams in the middle June of the following year.
  • The completion of Lesson Plan Files and Short Answer Papers, to be worked on and submitted electronically during the  interim.
  • A Short Answer Exam Paper and a Practical Exam on the use  of the Montessori materials.
  • This is a Montessori Centre International Certificate (level 2 equivalent of Teaching Assistant in the UK) with worldwide recognition.

B. INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMA IN THE MONTESSORI METHODOLOGY:

  • This is a course that must be completed in a maximum of 3 years. All aspects listed below must be completed within that time.
  • The Teaching Centre will organise Study Groups (one 3-hour session every 4 to 5 weeks) for two years to guide the students in the writing of 14 essays about the Montessori methodology and the use of the Montessori materials.
  • This is followed by Written Exam Papers (2 papers: one on Montessori philosophy and child development and one on the Montessori curriculum areas)
  • A Practical Exam will take place in April of the second year. This Practical exam would be preceded by a Two-Week intense Workshop. Finally the student must be able to do their voluntary Teaching Practice on our premises (420 hours). This is a UK Montessori Centre International Diploma (Level 4 equivalent of Nursery Teacher in the UK) with worldwide recognition.

WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

Seminars and Workshops for teachers (Professional Development): We hope there are many seminars which will appeal to you in the enclosed programme. And that they lead to your ability to further your work effectively with children. All courses culminate in a G.M.I Certificate of attendance.

Seminars and Workshops for parents & carers: You are welcome to attend any of G.M.I’s courses, seminars and workshops. They are designed to provide you with a clear understanding of the Montessori Approach in educating children in their formative years, and learn about, or expand your knowledge of a range of fascinating topics. All courses culminate in a G.M.I Certificate of attendance.

The Early Years Parenting Classes: This workshop invites all parents with infants on the way and with children from birth to age six (6) years who would like to understand/adopt the Montessori Method into their home. The course runs for eight (8) sessions on Wednesday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00pm from September to December.

10% percent of the proceeds of this course will be donated to West Africa Montessori Association (WAMA) to offer similar parental support to parents of underprivileged children.

Specialization in Montessori Materials Workshop: A two-week Apparatus Workshop taking place twice a year in April and September .These are  held by fully qualified trainers from the Ghana Montessori International Teacher Training Centre and Montessori Centre International as a crash course in the Montessori Method or as a refresher for the Montessori Practitioners.

Booking a seminar: Seminar times are 9 am to 12 noon. Workshops run at various stated hours.  Please note that we do not provide lunch. However, our ideal location offers students a choice of food within the vicinity of the college. Refreshments - coffee and tea - are provided at a mid-morning break and lunch time.

Confirmation of bookings: All confirmations are by email. Please note that seminar bookings are not transferable or refundable unless cancelled by GMI, who reserve the right to cancel any seminar in the event that advanced bookings are below a viable number. Should this occur, all persons will be given 48 hours notice, to the contact details given on the registration form. A credit note will be issued unless otherwise requested. GMI are not liable for any other costs incurred.
